My wife Sandy took this picture of me tonight while we were enjoying our first visit to Dolcé Vita, in Decorah Iowa. Can you see their wood fired brick pizza oven over my shoulder? We were very impressed with the Greek pizza we ordered. (Think gyros spread out on a thin pizza crust.)
Sandy had a red wine she was very happy with and I had this Schell's 2011 Snowstorm Beer Style: Wee Heavy Traditional Scotch Ale. If you want, you can click here to read Schell's description of this special beer. Let me just say that they ain't exaggerating on anything about this one. Very tasty, rich in color and body yet not so much as to overpower the stuffed mushroom appetizer.
As Sandy and I each sipped away, we talked and caught up on each other's weeks. We were not keeping close track of the passing time and so were quite happily surprised when the waitress came back, saying that our second round of drinks would be on the house because the pizza was going to be so long in coming. I almost started to argue her out of the offer of a free beer because any slight delay would have been forgivable. You see, tonight was Christmas at Luther and Dolcé Vita and the whole town of Decorah was swelling with visitors like us.
Our evening out of excellent, glorious Christmas music ended with a drive home in freezing rain, but I like how it started with a Snowstorm.
It was a very pleasant evening with you, and I was wondering if you caught my raised eyebrow as I heard you beginning to argue her offer of a free beer. You redeemed yourself by shutting up pretty quickly though, when you realized what you were doing :)
