The label describes Oberon as “An American wheat ale with the color and scene of a summer afternoon”. True
words. This was a very refreshing break from the blizzard going on outside.
I appreciate how the
brewers at Bell’s have brought out interesting flavors of spice and fruit from
the wheat, yeast and hops. Apparently they didn’t need to resort to adding
natural or artificial substances to enhance the good beer flavor. Some mass produced
beers, like Shocktop, use additives as a cheap trick for the drinker’s senses.
The Sun on the label,
reminds me of the Mayans, whose calendar seems to predict the end of the world tomorrow.
They might be right, but probably not. In any case, such speculation and signs
of the end ought to make us consider carefully how we live. God promises
eternal life to all who believe, but there are some hints that in heaven there
is no beer. So let’s take each beer carefully and drink it as though it might
be the last.
