On our way home from a visit in Michigan, my daughter, Rachel and I stopped for a quick visit at Kalamazoo. I had a glass of this earthy, dark, comforting drink with our lunch at the Eccentric Cafe at Bell's.
For lunch we had their Alsatian Pork Plate, which is pork three ways with sweet sauerkraut and German potato salad. It's named for Alsace, that strip of land on the border of France and Germany. Although the region is currently within the French geographical boundary, its culture and heritage are definitely German. Many of our relatives are named Elsass, which is the German word for that ancestral land.
So, the beer was excellent, the food was hearty, and the history lesson was an added bonus.
