Madhouse 2011 Iowa Grown IPA

After attending the “first in the nation” Iowa caucus, I came home and poured an Iowa made IPA to enjoy while watching the state-wide election results.

Madhouse in Newton, Iowa, has done the IPA just right in my opinion.  The aroma of hops is fresh and inviting, like picking them right off the vine.  The hops flavor lives up to the promise of the first whiff, but does not overpower.  I can still tell that this is beer, not just hops infused in water.

Iowa is having its 15 minutes of fame on the news tonight.  You ought to know, that Iowa is known for more than just politics.  We are also good at growing hops.  Here’s from the Madhouse website:

This beer contains Centennial and Cascade hops, 100% of which were grown in the state of Iowa. Hops are a vital ingredient to beer, contributing bitterness, flavor, and aroma. We use massive hop additions to this IPA, to truly showcase the characteristics of these local hops. With Iowa's amazing soil and unique climate, it only makes sense to immortalize them in this way!
