Potosi Cave Ale

Potosi Pure Malt Cave Ale, #15 in my Advent Calendar, is one I’ve tried before, on July 8 of this year, when we visited the Potosi brewery in Wisconsin.  I made a passing reference to it on the entry about Potosi’s Black beer. Since the Cave Ale was my wife’s hospitality sample, and I only finished what she didn’t want, I hadn’t yet given it a full page of its own.  Today it is my pleasure to have one all to myself.

Cave Ale is an interesting combination of sweet, caramel-like malt and bitter hops. There’s not a lot of specific flavor to the hops, but enough bitterness to balance, which is fitting for the style of English Special Bitter. I'm definitely happy to have this one again today, and hopefully again in the future.
