“A sap-run is the sweet
good-by of winter. It is the fruit of the equal marriage of the sun and frost.”
John Burroughs, Signs and Seasons, 1886
The Groundhog could not
see his shadow. Tomorrow is Fat Tuesday, already. The street out front goes in
turn from slush to ice and back again. These are dim, but certain signs that
Spring will come.
This sampling in the “Spring
Thaw Variety Pack” from Samuel Adams has a wonderful way of capturing in flavor
that end of winter, hope of spring feeling. The sweetness of the Maple Pecan
settles nicely into the warm full bully feeling of this deep, dark porter.
