Today I had a mug of
Jackknife, an easy-going, lemony and malty IPA. Afterward I had a nice visit
with staff at Backpocket Brewing in Coralville. They showed me around and gave
me an informative tour. One interesting site on the tour was a wagon into which
they dump the spent grains. They explained how they haul the grains to a nearby
farm where it is fed to cattle. After a while, the cattle, in turn, come to the
Backpocket Taproom in the form of hamburger served up from the kitchen. Ecologically
sound practices such as this, make me feel good about drinking beer.
Somewhere in the vat
behind me is the next pint of dunkel I’ll drink.
