Westmalle Trappist Ale Tripel
is, to me, one of the more enjoyable Belgian ales I’ve tried. It has the peppery
and clove spice common to the style but it is subtle enough that it doesn’t
distract from the natural refreshing flavor of malted barley fermented in
water.
According to the schedule
of my Advent Beer Calendar I should have drank this beer yesterday, but I was
away from home attending a wedding in Ohio, and so my schedule is off due to
the travel. It was a very nice wedding of some dear friends of our family. I
suppose most of the guests were admiring the bride’s gown and the cuteness of
the children in the wedding party. But I, from my vantage point seated in the congregation,
couldn’t get past the fact that the presiding minister wore a Christmas stole
on this the third week of Advent. I am quite sure that the makers of this Ale, Cistercian
Monks in the
Westmalle Abbey, appreciate the value of carefully distinguishing Advent
and Christmas.
