Schlafly American Brown Ale

I'm enjoying this excellent offering from Schlafly amidst the builldings of Concordia Seminary which were being built while my Grandpa Rausch was a student here in the late 1920's. That was the sad era in American history known as Prohibition. Since I always think of beer when I'm in St. Louis, I used to wonder what the city would have been like dry, So one time  I asked Grandpa, "What was St. Louis like during Prohibition?"

Grandpa just shrugged and said, "St. Louis didn't know there was a Prohibition."

Schlafly Hefeweizen

Schlafly’s Hefeweizen is a nice, easy going wheat – easy enough that Sandy enjoyed a couple of swallows of it.

Pi Common

I'm in St. Louis for a convention and right now I'm supposed to be at a stodgy banquet for the couple thousand delegates. But my wife found this cool pizza place and talked me into taking her there. The pizza is outstanding. And the beer is pretty great too. It has a fruity, malty sweetness and something that reminds me of delicious apples.

Schlafly Summer Lager

I found this helles style beer to be very refreshing this evening after a hard day of touring all the Lincoln sites in Springfield. As noted on the label, the German Noble hop adds a nice lemon spice. The picture is taken off of my son Caleb's balcony.

Schlafly Coffee Stout

After we shoveled out from today’s snowfall, my son had a cup of hot chocolate waiting for him and I had this nice coffee stout. The sweet malt and coffee bitterness combine nicely producing a warming feeling in the belly and a a relaxing feeling across the shoulders.

This will make a good dessert on any day. But on a snowy day it’s the best.

Schlafly Christmas Ale

It has become our family tradition to have snacks after the Christmas candlelight service. Sandy always makes stuffed mushrooms. This year we also had shrimp cocktail, vegetable pizza and fruit pizza.

I opened the last of my Advent Calendar, a Schlafly Christmas Ale, and poured it into my new snifter, a present from my daughter, Rachel.

This Christmas Ale has some easy going spices. Drinks like spiced apple cider are warming this time of year, bringing back nostalgic memories and adding to the spirit of the season. So with this beer, its cloves, ginger and cinnamon are flavors I wouldn’t want in an everyday ale, but it was just the thing for our holiday moment.

Schlafly AIPA

I found some terrific and interesting flavors in this Schlafly AIPA, number 16 in my Advent Calendar.  The hops are not just bitter, they give some refreshing tastes of citrus and pine.  I need to mark this as one I want to try again.
