Yuengling Light

I had a Yuenling Light at my sister's during a Christmas gathering. The Yuenlingwebsite  says of this label, "First released in 2001, Yuengling Light Lager was introduced as a 99 calorie version of the brewery “flagship” and ever-popular Yuengling Amber Lager."

Both the Lager and the Black and Tan were also available to me today.  Comparing the light to the full flavored original and to the more sophisticated dark was shockingly disappointing. If I were in to counting calories, I'd rather eat more celery and less ham than give up the heavier beers for this version, which is lighter not only in calories but also in flavor, and the flavor it did have, was a little off, with a taint of something metallic.

Yuengling Traditional Lager

I really enjoyed this Yuengling Traditional Lager while sitting around the fire pit in my sister Martha’s backyard.  This is the second time that her friend John has provided Yuengling for a family gathering at her house.  (See also, Yuengling Black & Tan.) Martha has recently announced that she and John plan to get married next year.  No one is asking me if I approve.  But, each time he buys me a good beer, I approve of him more and more.

Yuengling Black & Tan

This is a nice dark beer with a satisfying malty, nutty flavor.

At a family gathering, I assked my 15 year old niece  to bring me a Yuenling from the garage. She dutifully went out into the cold garage and returned with this bottle.  Seeing this, her father, my brother Gene, asked her to bring him a Henway.  She stepped back out into the garage, closing the door behind her.  After about ten seconds she opened the door again to stick her head in and ask, "What's a Henway?"

Gene answered, "About five pounds."

And we all had a good laugh.

It was great.  These sorts of things seldom work out so well with such perfect timing.
